Indexers usually charge by the indexable page. These pages are the body of the book, and exclude front and back material such as the table of contents, preface, list of illustrations, bibliography and glossary. Although charging by the indexable page is my preferred method, I will consider other arrangements. Also, the front and back matter can be indexed if you would like, and this is one of several aspects of the index preparation we will discuss. 

I do not charge a flat rate as each indexing project is unique. Books vary in length, format, detail, complexity and target audiences. In quoting a project fee, I take these variables, as well as other factors, into consideration. I am willing to negotiate, so contact me to discuss your next project.
